Rangetops with a large two-ring burner can show a lit center and a dark outer ring. We explain the usual reasons and what is safe to check.
Many Bertazzoni rangetops include a powerful dual-ring burner for woks and big stockpots. When the inner flame lights but the outer one will not, cooking slows, and it can be alarming to watch.
Many of these cases clear right up after a careful cleaning.
Do not remove the burner base, loosen gas fittings or use a flame to light the outer ring by hand while the knob is open. If gas flows without igniting, it builds up in the cabinet and kitchen. If you notice a smell of gas, shut the knob, open a window, and call your gas provider.
If the ring still stays dark after cleaning, if it lights with a pop or a delay, or if the center flame looks tall and ragged, the problem may be in the igniter or the valve. Those parts need testing with the right tools.
Wok cooks tend to use that burner most, so heavy grease build-up there is normal. A monthly cleaning keeps it reliable.
