Cleaning Bertazzoni Brass Burner Caps and Cast-Iron Grates

Bertazzoni gas burners and heavy grates need gentle, regular cleaning to keep flames even. This simple routine protects the finish and prevents clogged ports.

Italian-made gas ranges often use brass burner caps and heavy cast-iron grates. They look beautiful, and they hold up well, but they also collect grease, burnt sauce and boil-overs that slowly clog the small flame ports.

A weekly wipe

  1. Turn every burner off and let the top cool completely.
  2. Lift off the grates and caps, keeping track of which goes where.
  3. Wipe the cooktop surface with warm, soapy water.
  4. Dry everything before setting parts back.

Monthly deeper cleaning

Soak brass caps in hot soapy water, then clear the ports with a soft brush or a straight pin. Do not use steel wool, which scratches brass, and avoid harsh oven cleaner, which can dull and stain it. Rinse thoroughly, because leftover cleaner can burn off with a smell on the next use.

Enameled cast-iron grates can go in the sink. Skip the dishwasher unless the manual says it is fine, since soap and heat can wear the coating over time.

Reseating the caps

A cap that sits crooked can make a flame lick sideways or fail to light. When you replace each cap, check it sits flat and cannot rock. The igniter tip should stay dry and free of crumbs, so never pour water over it.

Houston humidity and your burners

Damp mornings can leave moisture near the igniters. If a burner clicks for a long time after cleaning, let everything dry, then try again. Persistent clicking, a flame that burns only half the ring, or a weak orange glow usually points to a blocked port or a worn igniter.
