Moving a Bertazzoni range to propane, or buying a home that uses a tank? Here is what a correct setup looks like and which warning signs deserve a call.
Many homes outside Houston’s city gas lines, from rural Montgomery County to lake houses, cook on propane. A Bertazzoni gas range can run on propane, but only when it has been set up for that fuel. Natural gas and propane burn at different pressures, so the small brass orifices under each burner must match what is feeding the range.
Any of these means the fuel and the hardware are not agreeing with each other. Turn the burners off and do not keep cooking while you wait.
Skipping the oven burner is a common mistake, and it is the one that causes bake problems later.
Do not flip switches or hunt for the source. Leave the house, then call your gas supplier or the emergency line from outside. Once the supplier has cleared the home, we can check the range itself.
After a move or a tank refill, it also helps to watch the first lighting of each burner. A clean blue flame with a short, steady cone is what you want to see. Anything else is worth a visit before the next family dinner.
