Pulling a Built-In Bertazzoni Refrigerator Out for a Kitchen Remodel

Planning new flooring or cabinets? Here is how to prepare a built-in Bertazzoni refrigerator for moving, what to protect, and what to check once it is back in place.

Kitchen remodels are common in older Houston neighborhoods, and the refrigerator often has to leave the room while floors or cabinets change. A built-in model is heavy and sits tight against its cabinetry, so a little planning protects both the floor and the appliance.

Before the Move

Give yourself time to empty and prepare the unit. Work through this list:

  1. Empty the food and move it to coolers or a temporary refrigerator.
  2. Switch the unit off at the control, then unplug it.
  3. Close the water supply valve if the refrigerator is plumbed, and catch any water that remains in the line.
  4. Remove loose shelves and bins and wrap them separately.
  5. Tape doors closed with painter’s tape so they cannot swing open during the move.

Use moving straps and a helper. Tilting the cabinet more than the maker allows can push oil in the cooling system out of position, which is why a rest period matters later.

Protect the Floor and the Plumbing

Slide a sheet of hardboard under the unit before rolling it so new tile is not scratched. Look behind the cabinet for the supply line; replace an old, brittle line instead of reusing it on a new installation.

After It Goes Back

Level the unit and confirm the doors line up with neighboring panels. Leave it upright for several hours before plugging in. Then watch for these things during the first day:

  • Even cooling after the first full cycle
  • No water at the connection point
  • Normal fan sound without rubbing
  • Doors that close fully on their own

Want a Second Set of Eyes?
