Bertazzoni Legacy 24-Inch Dishwasher Code E4: Overflow in the base

What E4 means

On Bertazzoni legacy dishwashers such as the DW24XV, DW24XT, DW24PR and DW18PR, E4 is an overflow alarm. On the DW24XV and DW24XT it means some part of the dishwasher is leaking. On the DW24PR and DW18PR, water has flooded into the base and moved the detection switch. The machine stops and shows E4, and the base pan may hold water that has to be removed before another start.

Common causes of E4

Hose connection or door seal leaking into the base
Too much suds or a cycle that overfilled the tub
Leak from the pump, valve or a hose inside the cabinet
Detection switch held up by water standing in the pan

1. Turn off the main water supply to the dishwasher at the valve. 2. Unplug the dishwasher or switch off its breaker. 3. Soak up any water on the floor and in the base pan with towels. 4. Look for a wet spot at the door seal or hose connection under the sink. 5. Do not restart it. Call us with the model number.

Should I shut off the water when I see E4?

Yes. Turn off the main water supply to the dishwasher and remove water from the base pan before calling. That limits damage while the cause is found.

Can too much detergent cause E4?

Heavy suds can push water out of the tub, and the switch in the base will react the same way as it would to a leak. Still, suds are a minor cause compared to a real leak, so have it checked.

Is E4 the same on all Bertazzoni dishwashers?

On the legacy 24-inch and 18-inch machines named here, yes, it is an overflow alarm. Newer Heritage, Professional and Master dishwashers use F1 for overflow instead.
