Bertazzoni 24-Inch Bottom-Mount Code F4: Freezer Compartment Sensor

What F4 means

On Bertazzoni 24-inch bottom-mount refrigerators, including the REF24BMBPNB and the REF24BMBIPNV group, F4 refers to the freezer compartment sensor. This probe reports the air temperature in the freezer to the control. The appliance still cools, but a technician should check it. You see the F4 code on the temperature display while the compressor goes on cycling. The fridge side has its own sensor, so this code concerns the freezer only.

Common causes of F4

A freezer compartment sensor with an open or shorted reading
A damaged lead or loose connector at the freezer probe
Ice build-up around the sensor from a poorly sealed drawer
A main board input that cannot read the probe

1. Check that frozen food is hard and the drawer closes fully. 2. Clean the drawer gasket and remove frost from the rim. 3. Keep packages away from the air slots at the back. 4. Turn the breaker off for one minute and on again. 5. If F4 returns, do not change settings; call us.

Is F4 the same as the freezer being too warm?

No. F4 reports a problem with the sensor that measures the freezer air. The freezer itself may be at the right temperature, but the control cannot be sure, so check with a thermometer.

Will my frozen food be fine?

Usually, since the cooling continues. Look for softening or new ice crystals. If food feels soft, the control may be running the cooling too little because of a wrong reading.
