Bertazzoni REF30/36BMBI built-in bottom-mount refrigerators, including the REF36BMBIXRT and REF30BMBIXLT, display "Lower unit too warm" when the bottom freezer has climbed above the temperature it is set to hold. The screen points you to the troubleshooting guide. You see the message on the touchscreen, and packages may feel soft on the surface or build up ice crystals. Until the freezer settles, keep the drawer closed as much as possible.
1. Push the freezer drawer fully closed and check that no package sticks out over the rim. 2. Look at the gasket for folds or crumbs and wipe it with warm water. 3. Check the setpoint on the touchscreen and leave it unchanged for several hours. 4. Keep the drawer closed as much as possible while it recovers. 5. If soft food stays soft, move valuables to another freezer.
It sends you through the basics: closed drawer, door seal, setpoint and recent loading. If those are fine and the message stays, the cooling itself needs to be tested, and we do that during a visit.
If packages are still hard with ice crystals inside, they are usually fine. Anything that thawed and felt warm should be judged by how long it was above freezing, and when unsure, throw it out.
A large amount of room-temperature food adds heat quickly, and the display can warn while the drawer pulls it down. If the message does not clear within a day, something besides loading is involved.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
