Bertazzoni Radiant Ceramic Cooktop Code Fr: Touch relay failure

What Fr means

On Bertazzoni radiant (Hi-light) ceramic cooktops in the PE..CER range, such as the PE304CER and PE244CER, Fr means a touch relay failure. A relay on the touch control did not switch the way the control expected, and as a protection all heaters turn off and lock. The display shows Fr, and the cooktop stays dead until the control is repaired.

What does the touch relay do?

It switches power to the heaters when you turn them on. If the control sees that it did not move as it should, it locks all heaters off, which is why the cooktop shows Fr and goes dead.

Will Fr go away if I wait?

Unlike a communication error, Fr is a failure the cooktop does not clear on its own. A breaker reset is worth one try, but a lasting Fr needs a technician to test the relay and the board.

Could the whole cooktop need replacing?
