What FE means

On Bertazzoni radiant (Hi-light) ceramic cooktops in the PE..CER range, such as the PE304CER and PE244CER, FE is a touch NTC error, meaning the NTC temperature sensor on the touch control reads as shorted. As a protection, all heaters turn off and are locked. The display shows FE and the cooktop will not heat until the problem is cleared by a repair.

Common causes of FE

  • NTC sensor on the touch control shorted
  • Wiring to the sensor damaged or pinched
  • Touch control board that misreads the sensor
  • Heat or moisture damage near the control
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn every heater control off and let the glass cool. 2. Dry the glass surface and the touch panel. 3. Switch the cooktop off at its breaker for one minute, then on again. 4. Try the controls once. 5. If FE returns and the heaters stay locked, leave the cooktop off and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • With the sensor shorted, the control cannot protect itself, which is why it locks everything.
  • The sensor and its wiring sit under the glass, close to live parts.
  • Resetting does not repair a shorted sensor.
  • We give you a written price first, and our repair has a 30-day warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

FEFE questions
Why are all the heaters off with FE?

The cooktop locks the heaters when it cannot trust the touch control's temperature sensor. That is a safety response, so the burners will not come on until the cause is fixed.

How is FE different from Ft?

FE means the touch NTC sensor reads as shorted, while Ft means it reads as open. Both are touch NTC errors and both lock the heaters, so both need the same kind of repair.

Will unplugging the cooktop fix FE?

It may clear the display for a moment, but a shorted sensor will bring FE back. If it returns, stop using the cooktop and call us for a test.
